Startpage is a private search engine from the Dutch Surfboard Holding BV. The search technology is a search interface that uses Google's search engine. Startpage started in 2009 and is initially the American version of Ixquick, which did not work there due to its rather complicated name. Meanwhile the provider has completely switched to the Startpage brand and Ixquick was closed in 2018.

Name

»StartPage was released in 2009 in the United States as a new name for the Ixquick search engine. Because the name Ixquick can be somewhat difficult to remember and spell, people asked us for an easier name, and we were happy to oblige.« Source
